Floppy Input/output error

Hi
I've searched but not found this problem on the boards

I installed Mandrake 8.2 on my laptop a few days ago. It was going fine until today all of a sudden I got this error when trying to use a floppy disk:

bash: cd: floppy: Input/output error

How can I fix this so it can read floppys again?

Sorry if this is a mundane question-I am very new to this.

When you figure out your own problem, it would be polite of you to explain what you did. That way, if someone actually searches the board for a problem like yours, you will have given them the fix. Otherwise, they will see your two posts and sit there and wonder what you did.

I rebooted the machine.

Sorry I didn't post it but I thought it must of been a dumb question since it was so easy to fix and no one else replied.
