I would like to install Linux and Windows 2000 on one hard disk (40GB IBM). I have Partition Magic Bootdisk.

Now I would like to know how should i partitioner the disk?

What loader should i use?

GRUB or LILO will do the trick. It's usually easier for newbies to go with the distro's default boot loader.

I have installed Mandrake (8.0) from windows partition and it did the partition & resize itself. Since you have Partition Magic, you can partition it yourself and boot from CD to install aswel..

Assigning partition sizes is a matter of taste and convinence. I generally like a 2-3GB for /, 2*(physical memory) for swap, and 2-4G for /home.

Reg loader, lilo seem to be favoured by most distros, though in feature and flexibility grub is powerful. If you are a newbie, stick to the stock boot loader (you can potentlially make your Windows non bootable playing with boot managers)

Here's some info you might like to peruse before install............http://linuxnewbie.org/nhf/Booting_Your_OS

BTW Partition Magic is not needed, unless your moving a windows partition to a different space on your drive. Do google search on dual-booting Linux and 2K, and study before proceeding. Very simple, but you'll get a thousand different answers on how to do it in a forum setting. Can lead to needless confusion.
