Running Scripts

I have found a file called .access and when i did cat .access i got the following

# Restricted area
Authname "Level 1"
Authtype Basic
AuthDBUserfile ../.passwd

Im new to linux so im not sure if this is a script or not if so how do i run it? if not what is it and what do i do with it?

I don't think i understand the question...to me it seems as this is a file for use with your httpd server on the web.You would not run it,the web server does when you visit specific webpage/direcory using your browser,then you are presented with a dialog box which you use to login and access the resources...unless i'm all wrong.Hopefully someone can explain it in better way...
