eh, just downloaded all those redhat rpms and made a boot disk. started to install it but it didn't recognize any hardware resembling my hard drive. any suggestions on how to get the installation to see my hd would be greatly appreciated... thanks

What kind of hardware does your hard drive use? UDMA, ATA/66, ATA/100? More info is needed to help diagnose the problem.

Also, your downloaded files need to have the same directory structure as they had on Red Hat's site. What I mean is, if the RH ftp server has the files as
/redhat/RPMS
then your hard disk has to be setup the same way, otherwise the installer won't find the RPM's.

it's an ata/66 and i have the right directory names since it did work on another machine. i don't know much about the hd. i believe it's a western digital that has 3 partitions. one partition has win98 while the remaining two are empty. thanks

As always, there's documentation on setting up the ATA66 here http://linux.nf/stepbystep.htm

Worked for me with the Promise ATA100.
