My sound server. starts with no problems i check on the configuration and aparently everything works fine but i hear no sounds i am running suse 8.0 thank you.

Did you remember to use a mixer and turn the volume up. usually by default as to my experience on redhat and understanding with other distros the sound is started off as mute. Try useing a mixer and cranking the volume all the way up and see how well that works out for you. It may be something you already thought of but just incase you forgot. :D
