I downlaoded and upgrkadepkged the latest glibc and glibcso packages from the slackware tree as recommended but whenever I have installed them they stop programs from compiling, the ones they stopped that I saw were QT and Vim but I'd bet there are a lot more, those are the only two I tried.
Anyone else had this problem?

It would help if you specify the error/s you're getting when compiling.

This is when I do ./cofigure:

checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.0... no
*** Could not run GTK test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK was incorrectly installed
*** or that you have moved GTK since it was installed. In the latter case, you
*** may want to edit the gtk-config script: /usr/bin/gtk-config
configure: error: *** GTK >= 1.2.0 not installed - please install first ***

I have Slackware 7.1 FULL installation.

gmoreno,

Exactly what program is giving you this configure-error? It most probably a bad build of that particular program, e.g. program requires 1.2.0 and won't recognize 1.2.8 for some odd reason.

I got the slack-7.1 GTK (gtk 1.2.8).

If you need VIM or QT, please download the tgz-package from ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-current/slakware/

ap1-directory for vim
kde1-directory for qt-2

jpilot-mail plugin and gpgp

just an fyi, in case you didn't know: slackware always recommends that you init 1 and upgrade/replace and then init 3 back to multi-user for safety.

not sure about jpilot, but are you refering to Gnu-PG when you posted gpgp or are you referring to something else?

Could you give me a link to it, as the Sourceforge.net project site don't have any files for downloading either jpilot or gpgp.

Yeah GNU-PG. You can find jpilot mail plugin at:

to reach level 1 either at bootup enter something like linux 1 or whatever your image is called,or from(I dont suggest from level4)level 3(default boot) as root just issue the init 1 command in a term.

heyas all,

everyone having probs with 2.2.1, you did also upgrade binutils, right? stock 7.1 binutil binary was version 2.9.1.0.25 against glibc 2.1.3. if you upgraded to the -current glibc slackpacks, you MUST also upgrade to the binutils slackpack in -current (ver. 2.10.1.0.2) diskset d1...

hope this helps...

ADDENDUM/EDIT
hmm, it seems that more people are having probs with the upgrade to 2.2.1 since it hit front page on userlocal.com also. kudus to them for this link. (how d_cantrell, one of the slack maintainers, recommends upgrading to the new glibc on stock 7.1 install)

gmoreno,

No errors on my box. I don't even have a Palm to do anything with this, yet.

Could you tell us about your Slack-box configuration again? There's probably a bad install somewhere.

I had the same problem...removed the gtkglib package, installed it again....everything worked, but I would hope I don't have to do this with qt or anything else, that could be a hassle
