How to change icon ?

I made some shortcuts on my desktop (RealPlayer and Knapster) but it shows an gear, how do i change them ?

If you're using KDE, right click the icon and select properties. Click the execute tab then click the gear icon which will bring up some icons to choose from.

If i choose properties, the only two options are "permissions" and "Dir".
How to go from here ?

delete the shortcut and make it again and this time add the file that you want to execute under the execute tab
