Hello everyone,I've got some questions about Debian. I've read that it is a difficult system to install & configure...yet a lot of you seem to really like it. So my questions are as follows:

A) What's so good about Debian?
B) Are there any benefits of using Debian instead of RH7.1 or Drake8.0?
C) For a newbie's point of view, is it really all that hard to use???

So far I like RH best, but then I've never used Debian...

I'm considering switching from Mandrake 8.0 to Debian 2.2r3 myself for the following reasons:

A) The package system is supposedly very good.
B) See A above.
C) Not a complete greenhorn by now, and hope I can get it installed without too much fuzz.

What just about every Debian users says, is that Debian may be a real '*****' to set up and configure. But as soon as that hurdle is passed, everything is smooth as silk :)

Anyway, I might wait for a laid-off PC from work to try out and experiment a bit with Debian before I take the plunge with my primary system. :D

Cheers :)

K, w/ me...guess I'll stick with
RH for now...I've only been using Linux for a couple of months...I will try Debian when I figure out how to use the system a little better. Thanks :D

I tried Debian once. It was not all that difficult to set up and configure.

There are a lot of CLI tools to do things that the other distros do with GUI tools. But, if you just ask a few questions here, you will get things going. The toughest part is getting your X going. but there is a tool for this too, you just need to know how to use it.

It is not a walk in the park but it is not "hard" if you ask a few questions.

Debian is a very good distro. Apt-get is a great admin tool. Debian is better than most, however I am not a debian user so I am not on the bandwagon.
