Alright...so I got the 2.4.0 kernel and compiled it and blah blah blah but when I go to my sound mixer I have lost control over the bass and treble. Would this be due to a newer driver that came with the kernel?

My problem is that with the 2.2.17 kernel that Mandrake 7.2 came with my sound was perfect. Now with the 2.4.0 kernel and new
driver (I suppose) when I turn up the volume it starts distorting and sounds horrible. Any idea?

I downloaded the lasted from http://opensource.creative.com and will compile that later to see if that works any better.

I took creative's 17/01 snapshot and the bass/treble controls weren't there neither.

Do you just think that they did away with the whole bass treble idea. I mean its kinda stupid to just leave it out.

bass/treble in the new emu10k1 driver is no longer handled by /dev/mixer. it is handled by /dev/dsp effects so you would have to tweak the module for it to display and get handled by /dev/mixer again.

here's a quick how-to. it is in no way easy/pretty and it only works for cvs but it worked for me...

maybe wait till the cvs tree gets updated again (it seems that it hasn't been updated for 2 weeks and greater) ie. downloading the daily module is futile since you're dloading the same module/diff. rather browse the cvs tree daily and see if it is updated... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif

hope this helps
