Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : non dos partitions
I'm presently trying to reuse a hard drive that had RH6.2 loaded on it. By using dos or a windoze startup disk, I'm trying to delete the non-dos partitions. (Don't worry I still have other boxes with Linux)
What can I use use to delete those partitions so I can load back Windoze?
I used to use an older PC with a BIOS that had a low level format option.
What other means do I have? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

use the boot dick that comes with windows.
boot into dos, and use fdisk to erase and create new partitions, then use the format to format the new partition(s).

So what you are saying is that you cannot delete these non-dos partitions with the dos/win9x fdisk due to them being Linux partitions. Correct?
Use the Linux version of fdisk, or fips or Partition Magic. There are other ones available that you could search for at freshmeat.

this program works well for removing non-dos partitions that fdisk can't handle, like linux and ntfs
Yes, the dos fdisk will not remove non dos partitions. There would be a extended partition with logical drives. But when you go to look at the logical drives, there isn't any. So naturally you can't delete the extended partition.
I was thinking of using Partition Magic that came with the Mandrake set. And also the Linux fdisk but you know that's a pain.
Thanks everybody!
I'll check out that site. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

that is why i make a win9x/dos boot disk, put ranish partition manager on it with fdisk and format
i can then use it to wipe just about anything
