This is not exactly a newbie question, but I need something to share/fallover 2 lines to the internet and figure this is a good way to really understand Linux.

I have one DSL line to the internet, but to keep my site up I'd like to add another one and setup a router so that either both lines can be used or so that when the faster line is down the slower one gets the traffic until the faster one comes back up. Is this appropriate use for a routerbox or am I fooling myself ?

I looked at the linux router project page already and it's not really appropriate for my use. Any site or book suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Not sure if that's what u were looking for. I found it about 3 months ago, and it's managed to survive my favorites list. hehe.

It looks perfect. I'll post the results after I've done it.

I'll start the project on Friday, hopefully be done by the end of the weekend. It's a great article, only thing I wish was an automatic routing off of dead line. Currently he's disabling the NIC that goes to the dead ISP.

Did that work for your situation? I am trying to do the exact same thing (except it's a T1 and DSL) but I seem to be having problems with the default gateways. I followed the instructions for the Source IP Routing but I am getting alot of (connect: Network is Unreachable) whenever I ping something other than my immediate public subnets.
Thanks

Please do post back. I'm watching this post. I may be doing this too myself soon to increase avability and bandwidth.

Do you all use a round-robin DNS to balence the load over the two links?
