I had Pine installed on an old RHat box. Now I got into more stuff by trying to install it on Mandrake 82. I don't want to use fetchmail, well, not yet anyway. I understand that Mandrake is not using send mail, and that this is a little involved. Perhaps a couple helpfuls links and thoughts will get me started.
Appreciate th' help.

if your having trouble installing pine then use urpmi
urpmi pine
And postfix is standard on Mandrake which is from my experience 100% sendmail compat. and even includes sendmail binaries.
Could you rephrase you question however as I didnt quite understand it.

...sorry 'but the loss of info there. Have installed Pine via urpmi from the Mandrake 82 CD, which was new to me when I found it. When I send, I get a message like - "Connection failed to localhost.localdomain.com Connection refused". I had spoke to a friend and he said something to the effect that it has something to do with the naming scheme of my machine and they way it differs from RHat. And like you said, that it uses postfix. Do I have to reconfigure postfix to use Pine, or can I install / configure sendmail so that I can use Pine?
'nuff info? Hope that's helpful as I'm @ work now and don't have access to my box @ home.
Along with a miriad of other stuff going on, I'm not pressed to get this done. But appreciate the help / guidance.
