My apt-get keeps segfaulting.
When I try to update the sources list or just apt-get install or remove or upgrade anything than it first gives the normal:
Reading Package Lists... Done
but then it faults and gives:
Segmentation faulty Tree... 50%
Anybody know how to cure this? apt-get is useless in this state.

Are you sure your sources.list is filled with sources that are valid? Sounds like you got a bogus package list somewhere. Try pruning it down to the bare minimum (i.e. just debian.org) and then running apt-get update. If that doesn't work, get the newest package of apt from Debian and use dpkg to install that.

You could also try "dpkg --configure --pending" or "dpkg --configure -a" to see if there is a package that just didn't install and is messing up everything else...

Thank you, I removed all the unnecesary sources, now only the debian mirrors, gnome and galeon sources and apt-get updated and now it went allright.
So it seems that one of the other sources was 'bogus' as you say. (I just have that monster sources.list from somebody on here, can't remember who, and adapted it to my own tastes but apparently some of the sources on there are not valid anymore then)
Anyway it's solved now, thanks.

If its craigs list there are a lot that don't seem to be valid anymore. I had to do extensive modifications to get it to work for me. I even re-organised it a bit and its a lots tidier and easier to read now as well.
