I'm running Debian woody and I love it, I compiled ssh2 instead of apt-getting it so it doesn't start up on boot. In Redhat I edited /etc/rc.d/rc.local and plugged in the program i wanted to run, how would i do this in debian, because that doesn't seem to work
(I'm trying to start up sshd)

Edit /etc/init.d/rc.local instead, that should do it. Then you could make sure there is a link to it in the /etc/rc2.d directory (since runlevel 2 is Debian's default).

The FAQ on the debian.org site covers this.
If you run Debian you should read the FAQ.
It has some great information in there.
