I am really new to Linux and have been guessing my way through installations etc. I wanted to go on to a chat line and see if there were any other users with their 'L' plates on...

I have tried to use licq and other chat programs that came with mandrake 8.2. I have registered online and have a UIN but whenever I open ICQ nothing really happens, I can't actually get to the point of chatting to anybody....what am I doing wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I've been to ICQ's homepage but didn't find what I was looking for?
Thanks

(By the way, this should be under software forum instead)
You should look out for licq homepage instead of the 'normal' icq
homepage (That is for Windows if I am not wrong).

When I used licq 1 year ago, I realised that it has a funny bug --
if you have installed Windows icq beta 2000, you may encounter
some authentication problem while connecting to the icq server.
You might have catch the same bug here. Read up the licq faq
webpage for details as I have not touched it for several months.

But for reassurance, you should look at the licq log file to know
what exacting is happening.

Sidetrack:
How do I crosspost this to both software and the forum here, and
then make all followups to software? Thanks

Only mods and admins can move posts around forums, etc.

Moved to Software forum.
