I am having problems with the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb ... it sets one of my paths to that.. what can I do? what am i missing?
I tried running xinit, and get problems. This is w/ the mandrake v8 install. I have no other partitions. Can anyone help please?
During the install stage, I also got the errors:
/tmp/imm.o init_module : No such device
/tmp/ppa.o init_module : No such device
My hardware is:
I have a Sony G200 17" monitor. I also have the Matrox Millenium G200 grafix card.
Can anyone help? As for the install - I just went through it and just decided to go w/ the command line prompt for now until I can get X up and going... thanks in advance.

Would it be possible that mandrake v8 has some holes in the install process? Was anyone able to install it successfully all the way through? I also did a md5check on my ISOs before burning as well..

I don't think that the problem is with Mandrakes installer, because many, many people have installed version 8

What exactly is the problem you are having? Error messages during the install?

I have error msgs during the install that says to reconfigure so it would pass the test where it tests the X.. but it can't becaues it says i need to change the configuration. However, i enter everything for what I hve... a Sony G200 monitor, Matrox G200 Mill. 8 MB. I also hve tried the lowest resolution posible, the 640x480x8 as well.. but that doesn't work either.
So I skip the config of that and just choose to load X at bootup.. i can see it tries to go into it because the monitor flickers, but eventually it just gets to teh command prompt. after i login and such, and i type "xinit", it never gets there and I get an error message about a few paths.. one of them doesn't even exist, which the one having to do w/ the rgb path.
I tried running Xconfigurator, but still get errors and can never get a successful test.. anyone know if my grafix card, the G200 is compatible?? or where the problem might be in the insatll? Or a manual way of untaring the files necesary or what I can do to troubleshoot? Thx in advance..

Does Mandrake 8 include two versions of X? 3.3.6 and 4.0.? I would check at www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org) to see which version is better suited for the Matrox G200.
I would think any Matrox card should be well supported. The monitor shouldn't cause any problems.
Have you also tried searching at Google (http://www.google.com/linux) for any of the error messages? You may find the answer.
