What's wrong with it? I don't feel well. What's wrong with me? For us to help you, then you have to provide enough information for us to work with. Distro, version, network card, what have you tried so far, how was it originially loaded on bootup before it stopped working, have you done any research yourself on this problem? Maybe this bbs should have a forum that IS REQUIRED to be filled out with all the pertinent info whenever a question is asked. It would save time and get the persons pc up and running a little faster. rch-tech 08-21-2001, 05:19 PM Hey guys, take it easy. Not everyone is network savvy...or pc savvy for that matter. If this guy were a new user to linux, what do you think his chances are in coming back to it, if anyone he asks gives him crap. I'm not saying that we have enough info, we don't, but to the less savvy, he may think he gave us all the necessary info. He may be a newbie but we wanna keep him on our side don't we? Down with M$ =) That being said, (sorry to rant...I work on a helpdesk and get the old "not enough info" caller all the time), please post us your linux distribution (mandrake, suse, debian..etc) your type of network card, any error message, and what you've tried already. The more detail the better... mcmanus69 08-21-2001, 05:53 PM Man, my love life is going down the drain. It used to be good, but it's not anymore. Can anyone help me? :D j/k.... but yeah, along with what everyone else said (no need for me to repeat), you might also want to include any changes you might have been making to your system at that time. (such as recompiling your kernel, editing certain files, etc.) frank754 08-21-2001, 10:25 PM yes I agree that newer folks don't know exactly what to ask at times, and are just putting a feeler out to find someone that might have enough expertise in a certain area to ask for clarification and then give some help. When we get to be able to accomplish a lot of things on the OS we should still be helpful and we probably can give the right answers in a snap if we knew what it was he were asking, and avoid some poor dude a week of hassle and giving up and going back to Gates-dom. I was working with Redhat myself a few weeks ago, and while booting it locked up for 3 minutes trying to start my eth0 card, which works fine under Mandrake, I still don't know why, and that could be an anomaly of my system, but many of us can help, and often many of us are not even here (such as myself) for long periods of time when we have no questions, but at the time we are here, it's good karma to read all the posts and give just the right encouragement to convert a new believer to Linux... just my 2cents justlinux.com
