Tweeter 07-12-2001, 02:58 PM I was just wondering if anyone was tried Slack 8 yet, i was wondering if it was worth the upgrade...? s1nn 07-12-2001, 03:02 PM i was wondering the same thing- Evil Jeff 07-12-2001, 03:14 PM It's great. I found the installer to be a little buggy (didn't mount the cdrom right during one install, no other problems, and it was fixed easily enough) but the packages are great and it's wonderful. I have had no problems with it. The extra cd has a much better choice of packages on it, including java (jd and jr) - I give it two tar'd and gz'd thumbs up. The installer worked great for me (I prefer the NCurses based menu system that Slack uses over many of the other GUI implementations out there) i had total control over what went onto my server with the install. I'm liking this version of Slackware as much as i've liked previous versions maybe a little more since this is the first version of Slack that i've used that uses Glibc versus libc.5 ... However, I am having a little difficulty adjusting to a couple of minor things like the newer version of Samba that it comes with (2.2.0a) and creating private user shares with it. justlinux.com
