I've never been able to get wine running from an rpm.

Instead I suggest that you install it from the source.

If you have the Mandrake development packages installed already it shouldn't be too difficult for you to install.

1) Go here:

ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/wine/development/

2) and download latest version of the wine:

ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/wine/development/Wine-20020710.tar.gz

3) then download the installation instructions:

ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/wine/development/wine-doc-html.tar.gz

4) go to the directory you downloaded the two files to and type:

tar -xzf Wine-20020710.tar.gz
tar -xzf wine-doc-html.tar.gz

5) inside your browser open the documentation files and read the first 10 pages or so of the installation instructions.

Other than making sure you have the right packages installed before hand (the documentation will tell you what you need) the documents will tell you to run a little program which compiles and installs Wine for you and then make a few changes to a config file.

Let us know if you run into any problems along the way.

Get codeweavers wine rpm.

http://www.codeweavers.com/technology/wine/download.php

Install the rpm as root, switch to your normal user and run the winesetup command.

I still can't get wine to setup. All I get is the ? icon when I open up wine. I can't find any read me files that I can get to open.

I'm in Mandrake 8.2

I went to the software manager and did a search for "wine", then installed the Codeweavers wine that appeared. After that, all my .exe files icons turned to wine glasses. I've had five things working so far:

Calculator
Winzip
mIRC
Critical Point (A game that uses Direct X)
Otaku Mascot (A window sitter - it only sits on WINE windows though).
