Hey Guys !
Iam jus ripping a CD with my 48x CD-ROM on a Athlon 1333 System . But the speed that grip shows me is 1.5x . that is pretty slow i would say . As encoder i use lame . But i dont think that has much to do with it . So what can that be that it is so slow ?
Any ideas welcome

usually when I get a grip read that slow, the disc is scuffed all to hell....

I personally have never really gotten any CD ripping software to run faster than about 2.0x on my 24x CD-ROM / 200MHz system...
I did try to get it to go faster but sometimes the CD-ROM would spin about as if i had just put a blank CD in.
I have wondered about this problem myself ... would it just be unbranded hardware or kernel related stuff??

Grip isn't exactly fast at ripping discs. I use xcdda2wav to produce wave files first. Using a Plextor CDRW, it rips at about 20speed. If you can find an app that turns wav files into MP3s, you may find these 2 processes are quicker than Grip ( I think there's a newer version of xcdda2wav called x-multigrab that does it all, actually )
Good luck.
