Stop me before I kill again!

I'm so glad I didn't have much on my windows harddrive, 'cause it's gone now. I bought a 2nd hdd and installed it as slave. Then I installed mandrake 8.2 (from a commercial disk) and, you guessed it, it wiped out windowsXP.

XP is now back in. How can I make mandrake install on the OTHER hdd?

And secondly, how can I control which hdd boots each time. Do I have to go into the bios every time?

Help greatly appreciated.

Ok this maybe not the best way but its noob proof. Disconnect the IDE and power cable from your windows hard drive C:\ install Linux to the other drive d:\ . Power off reconnect ide and power to c:/.

job done to boot into Linux just go into your bios and select which hard drive you want to boot from.

alot of my freinds say its a pain to keep going into the Bios to change OS but I hardly use windows, my system will keep booting into Linux unless i change which hard drive boots up first.

I think for a Noob this is easy, instead of messing around with Lilo grub or whatever .

Amazingly simple, but so simple that it has to work. Thanks lots!

I would think if you did a 'Expert Mode' install, selected the primary/slave drive to install Mandrake on and installed the bootloader to the mbr of the master drive, all should work.

Many users here install Linux to their second drive and rarely have problems.
