Hi,

would it be possible to allow the person who first postes a thread to set the status of the thread to "solved" as soon as his/her problem is, well, solved?

The way I see this is with an extra icon for the threads: you now have icons for folder, hot_folder, new_folder, etc. If another icon folder_solved or anything would be added e.g. the same icons but with a green checkmark or something over it, this could be used to indicate a certain problem solved.

The original author (and off course the moderators) would be presented an extra option: set status to solved or something.

Then other users could decide a) not to read the post because no comments need to be added - althoug it should still be possible I think. b) read the post because they have the same problem...

Possibly this could then be added to the search algoritm e.g. search only posts that are solved...

Who else would like this?

Why not just reply to the thread and say 'thanks you helped out alot, that solved my problem'?

Hi,

a lot of people do that already, but if some sort of icon (and variable) is used it can be part of search string (it is possible to search for threads that have "solved" in the text, but since not everybody will use the same phrase that would be quite ineffective IMHO).

Also when you're browsing through the forum a special icon would tell you a particular problem is solved or not without having to open the thread.

I just think it could save a lot of people some time.

Kind of like how HP's ITRC has "the magic answer" that specifies what it was that solved the probelm? That might be nice, and the icon on all the solved threads...

Yes. Put your mouse over some of them. Also check the bottom of the page.
