Ok....I admit it: I am still a newbie. I want to try 'BlackBox' and I downloaded the RPM for it. I am running Mandrake 8.1 and I "installed " the files by clicking on the downloaded RPM file on my Desktop. From this point on, I am lost. I have no clue where it installed anything, if it even did. I have been trying to find some documentation on using it but have come up pretty dry so far. Any help is appreciated.

It should be in /usr/X11R6/bin. Check out the sample menu in /usr/share/blackbox and you can write your own.

On my Mandrake 8.2 the menu file is under usr/local/share/blackbox/menu and its read only so you have to be on root to change it, and chances are you will have to do alot of changing, but its not difficult. If Mandrake is set to boot to either KDE or Gnome right now, the easiest way to get blackbox running is to pull up xterm or something and type linuxconf. Under linuxconf there is a Booting option or something like that where you can choose to run either run level 5 (boot to KDE or Gnome) or run level 3, which brings you to a text login, which is what you want. Then, check and see if there is a file called .xinitrc under your user home directory (mine is /home/rich). If not make one and just put "exec blackbox " in it and save it. Then when you boot up to the text login, log on your username and type your password, and when you're logged in, type startx and it should bring up Blackbox
