When I boot up my computer I get a "boot failure" error and i'm forced to use a boot disk (which is incredibly slow). I chekced the BIOS settings, and the lilo.conf file but I can't find anything wrong.

I do have a /boot partition which the lilo files are installed to. But i'm starting to think if I installed it to the MBR it would work. But I don't know the command that would do this.

If anyone knows how to do this, or another way to fix the problem i'd be grateful.

Thanks

You didn't say if you are dual booting and how you have your partition setup, so I will leave you this link http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/osbooting/lilo_dual.html

In a terminal either SU or log on as root and type /sbin/lilo, this will install lilo to the MBR,

I tried that and I still get the same boot failure error on bootup.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's not lilo. So here's what happens on bootup. Startup screen, check for bootable floppy, check for bootable cdrom, then I get the boot failure message.
