ARG!
Ok, the UPS guy pulled up and handed me my beautiful tin box with the words quake 3 arena enscribed on it. Ripped it open, and installed it. Beautiful...hmm...now if I just could get this joystick to work. Oh wait, it's USB. I searched around google and didn't find much in the way of my MS Sidewinder precision pro (blah...) for USB. Any idea how to set it up? I don't really know what I need to set up a USB joystick. I've got USB running good so I don't need that, just the joystick stuff. Basically, just the major and minor for the joystick and the mods or apps that'll make it work.

I would say to look in the NHF's (newbie
help files) or search the posts for that.
I think there was some info I passed
somewhere related to that. I'm not sure
if your specific hardware is supported.
Mandrake would be a better bet for supported
hardware, but in any case, if you need
to do a kernel recompile, there are several
options in there related specifically to
joysticks which you may need to look at
and consider, if your hardware is in any way
compatible I would especially look there,
and also if your hardware is not listed
in those options to see if it may generically
fit under one of them by searching other
users or perhaps google.

Thanks, but I'm gonna avoid switching to MDK :) Also, it's a MICROSOFT joystick...nothing else quite like it :P and, AFAIK, there are no USB joystick mods for any kernel.

You're using a joystick for Quake3 !?!?! YECH!!! Don't talk to me!

j/k :D

I don't know if they do this for game ports, but since USB -> PS/2 converters exist, maybe someone has made a USB -> serial (game port) converter? I think you're right about no mods, but at least make sure you have all your USB options compiled into the kernel or as modules (and they get modprobed), and maybe try searching a bit harder for some sort of driver? www.freshmeat.net (http://www.freshmeat.net) and www.sourceforge.net (http://www.sourceforge.net) have lots of stuph. I'm SURE there are some avid flight-sim linux-users out there...... ;) < / sarcasm> (j/k!)

Actually, let me know if you find anything. I was planning on buying a USB steering wheel controller "soon".

Well, I'm not yet using my joystick with Q3...and I'm getting a bunch of other linux games.
