Why can't you use lilo?? Any error messages, version,...?

I am having the same problem. Am running Red Hat 7 with kernel 2.2xxx and WinME. ME is on the first 10 Gig partition. Then /boot, /, <swap>. w/o using the boot disk, the machine boots directly into WinME. I read an article posted on Linux Gazette dated April 1998 that states that LILO is unable to read data past cylinder 1024. That means anything past 8Gig. Since this was a 3 yr old article, I was hoping that LILO had been updated. Anyone know?
Based on what this article says, it looks like we have to use a boot disk.

I read something about an 8GB limit with older versions of LILO, although the article I read said that the newer versions of LILO corrected that problem. I use LILO with a 15GB drive with no problems at all, so I am assuming it was corrected.

Yes, lilos been updated but it will only be able to read past the 1024'th cylinder if your bios supports this special call, and not all of them do. Maybe yours will.

A fix I found is that you can stick your kernel image in your windows partition so its below the 1024 cylinder. Im sure that worked for me, either that or im going barmy.
Good Luck.

Thanks Grasshopper, now for the big question. How and where do I move the kernel image to the Windows partition? I'd assume that I would have to do this while in Linux since it can read both formats. I am not certain what the kernel image name is and where it resides and is there a particular location that I have to move it to on the Windows partition? Feeling dumb here, thanks again for your help.
