Whats wrong with just lame?

but you have several choices:
bladeenc
gogo
oggenc (ogg files)
l3enc

You can also use a nifty front end like Grip to help you

And where would I find these?

Google perhaps?

And may I recommend Ogg Vorbis over MP3? It's a much better and much less patent-encumbered format.

Lame rocks,
try looking at the Grip site. Grip is nothing more than a graphic front end to a few of the encoder programs.

You will find a link to Lame there I'm sure.
http://nostatic.org/grip/
as well as ogg vorbis and bladeenc.

Besides you might like Grip.
it will (Lame required) rip a cd on the fly and encode imediatly to MP3. or convert your cds to wavs for buring mixed music cds.

It really is not a big deal of a program but it does its job well and can work with a few rippers and encoders.
