Problem loading X

I have a fresh copy of RH 7.1 installed. When I started X for the first time, it loaded just fine. The resolution was off so I ran Xconfigurator and changed the resolution. The next time X was launched, the screen flashed and went black. When I launch Xconfigurator and have it try to start the server, the screen just goes black regardless of the resolution. I am forced to reboot. This box has a Matrox Millenium g200 8meg agp vid card. All of the info in the config is correct(frequency, monitor settings, etc). What could be the problem? This box had RH 6.2 on it previously.
