Hi,
I've just started using Mandrake 8.2 yesterday and I can't figure out how to connect to Yahoo messenger using gaim.
When I try to connect, a message appears: Signon error and it states: Unable to read.
Does anyone know what that means?

What version of gaim are you running?
When setting up your account detail, have you selected the correct protocol??

I'm using v0.51..
yeah I chose the correct protocol ( I think) which is the Yahoo protocol, no?
I'm able to connect to MSN Messenger though.

there was a yahoo error bug in the gaim versions prior to 58
upgrade to a newer version it will then work.
I myself had the same prob.
the bug is in the way it records the yahoo server address in your .gaimrc file.
If you compair the yahoo server address listed in the files with the actuall yahoo server you will see the problem. also directly writing it into the file does not fix it.
you will need to upgrade.

Its odd that only from today have I had this error, I was signed in and using Yahoo! just fine. No chance of me upgrading tho', I'm already using v0.59 :)

If I recall, the error with gaIM and Yahoo IM is the server name. Yahoo's IM page lists the server name incorrectly, it's off by one letter, but I don't remember what it is.
Can someone who successfully uses gaIM with Yahoo IM please look under Tools > Accounts > Modify (Yahoo) and post the exact server name here? Yahoo says it is scsa through scsd.msg.yahoo.com, but as I said that's off by a hair.
Thanks!

Why dig up a year-old thread for this?
At any rate, it's scs.yahoo.com
