Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Xmms upgrade needs GLIB 1.2.2? Something's fishy here...

Hey, it's me again (and again and again and again...)
I got Xmms with the installation of Suse, but I wanted to upgrade to the latest version, so I had to uninstall the previous version and download the next one.
Uncompressed...
did a ./configure...
and this is what I got:
checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.2... no
*** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found
*** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to glib-config.
configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first ***
I don't know what's worse... not knowing what Glib is, not knowing what's that Prefix mode, or not knowing what is that full path thing about.. actually, I barely understand any of this. Considering I had Xmms a while ago, it must mean I have GLIB 1.2.2, so just what am I being asked to do by this ./configure?

Hello! Welcome to dependency heck (almost as bad as dll hell)

You may have to wait for the next release.

You may be interested in the redcarpet (http://ximian.com/products/ximian_red_carpet/download.html) updator.

If you want bleeding edge with easy depencency resolution, check out Gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org/) with portage

Dependency Heck/Hell... yeah I've heard and read about it. So my GLIB is likely outdated? Oh heck... I'll leave this aside for another day... I heard Debian and some other distros are easier for keeping programs updated without these dependency problems. Well, off to Yast to install the previous version (1.2.6), there can't be that much of a difference there, can there? I'll deal with dependencies some other day. Good to know my problem wasn't something 'else' (the amount of code there was rather scary, anyway.. how do I check the version I have of Glib?)

Try redcarpet. They have a SuSE channel.
