Before even trying to make my winmodem work, I took a look around the compatibility list at http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/20020709a.html (I dunno if I did that right) anyway.. after looking at the complete list, I can't find my modem anywhere, but all of the modems that have the same chipset are known to be WinModem (meaning they can't even be configured as LinModem), then.. I should just give up trying to configure it or there's something else I am missing?

My modem: AOpen FM56-SM
Chipset: Covenant (Rockwell) Monopack RS56/SP-PCI

Not having a modem is not such a big deal since I can connect through the other pc's proxy in the LAN (saves me the trouble of having to set up the proxy in Linux as well), altough it would have been nice to be able to learn as much Linux as possible.

The Conexant based modems have excellent support under Linux. Check http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/hcf/downloads-license.html

Ah... oops.
I guess AOpen is just such an unknown brand (for which I am glad because it has nearly zero compatibility with other brands in every aspect), good to know I'll probably be able to make my modem work... altough there's nothing installed yet... well, hopefully all will work correctly. Thanks.
