Wanted to know where to get good backgrounds and how to make menus and the terminal transparent, float, ect...
example http://greenridge.sourceforge.net/crap/bbshot4.jpg
Im not too sure about the transparent menus, but http://www.kde-look.org is supposed to be good for backgrounds and what not.
Or you could look at http://www.themexp.org (should i say that?) for some nice backgrounds.

That lools like a blackbox wm. Check out Fluxbox (http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/), which has tabs as well.
You may have to compile it from source, though. I am using it in Gentoo
Get both fluxbox and fluxconf and that gives you some menus and themes to start with.
Gnome and kde are so klunky and awkward after I switched to fluxbox.

try Eterm http://www.eterm.org/
supports transparency and more, my favorite
some free cool wallpapers can be found here

scroll around to find the free galleries
also, for the added 31337 factor, try gkrellm. looks cool and is very functional.

Ahh, that's my screenshot :)! I can tell ya, use aterm for a terminal, use Blackbox (blackboxwm.sourceforge.net) as a window manager, and get your backgrounds at deviantart.com. At least that's what I do...
Installing Blackbox (or Fluxbox or Waimea or whatever) is different depending on how you start X. Generally you just stick "exec blackbox" in your ~/.xinitrc or ~/.xsession, depending on whether you use init 3 or not.
