heres the scenario...i have this set up
1. win2k gateway doing ICS
2. linux mandrake 8 and win98 se machine
3. AnalogX Proxy app running on win2k machine
4. Mandrake machine has been hard coded with ip addy 192.168.0.2 (if this is not set to 192.168.0.2 i can not connect to internet at all...meaning if i let dhcp go...and i get for example an ip like 192.168.0.32...i wont be able to connect with internet even though i have the proxy set up)
5. Mandrake machine can PING gateway by IP but not hostname
6. Using Pac Bell DSL

when the proxy application(analogx) is not turned on...the mandrake machine has no internet access....even if i disable the proxy in konqueror i still dont not get an internet connection...

it is like the Mandrake machine is not recognizing the internet connection from the win2k machine...funny thing is...win98se machine can connect with and without proxy turned on...meaning 98 machine is totally independant from the proxy...i mean if the proxy is on...98 machine CAN use proxy to connect...but it really doesnt need it to be turned on...

on the other hand the mandrake machine can ONLY connect when the proxy app is running and Konqueror has been set with the IP of the proxy...

why do i have to use the proxy application...why can i detect the internet connection like how the 98 machine does...

thanks for all replies..if u need anymore info...just ask..
