In just a Weeks time i have found somthin..i found that Linux is god :)

i picked slackware linux 8 because many said it had a hard learning curve that meant challenge to me so bam downloaded it.."thank god for high speed connects"

tossed it in installed it operating system error huh? ahh man this **** is bunk..."wait lets check it out"
hmmm a cyclinder boundary error doh not linux fault end user fault doh :)

so i try to fix not much luck ended up makeing an early purchase and added a second harddrive then i had a lilo problem another end user problem just had to add
lba32 bam dual booting installed my accelerated x server one of the lgd's from xig.com
and low and behold stands before me a crisp clean sweet looking kde2 desktop man its was a chaotic play ground for hours before i even got down to config things :)

anyhow got my sound working and my kernel settings with help from a couple of books linux in a nutshell and running linux

now first my hardware
dual p3 coppermine's at 800mhz each
512mb ram
will this handle large compile's and could i build entire complex programs ect say games on this or would i need more?

i also have a sams C++ for linux in 21 days book how would u rate that for a good starting book?

linux is truly god

all your help thus far has made my transition
rather smooth im totaly hooked :)

thanx for the help by the way :)

I have just gotten a few installation of linux under my belt, and you are definately right...the things that make linux difficult are the things that make it so flexible and powerfull...

As far as compilation on a dually 800...ummm...that should be more than enough...I regularly use an old laptop of mine to do some c/c++ work on and it works fine at 200mhz.

I am not a big fan of the learn anything in 21 days philosphy...I dont think it's possible...learning is a lifelong process.

Have fun with your linux box...
