Lockups Redhat 7.1 Help Please

I'm getting lockups with KDE & Gnome when they are starting but not with Blackbox if I load it thru failsafe.
Is this the only way to load B'Box or X, thru failsafe after the login. What is failsafe ?
I'm using
AMD K6/2 500 cpu
256 ram
MSI MS-5184 mainboard
MSI MS-8808 nvidia TNT2 M64 video card 32mb
Creative Vibra 128 sound card
Quantum 5gig hard drive
Adaptec AVA-2904e scsi card
Canon FB620S scanner
MS optical wheel USB mouse
NetComm AM5600 modem
HP Deskjet 540 printer

Failsafe would be similiar to the MS Safe mode. Just enough to get your system to boot and fix the problem.

Sorry I have no idea what could be causing the lockups. Have you reviewed some of the system and X logs?
