Is there a way that you can download your mail from a free account (such as hotmail) to your home computer so that you can read and reply to it there.

Do any of these free accounts let you do that and if so; How do you set up say Exim to do that?

Free email accounts make their money by you visiting the site. so allowing you to download email from them would defeat the purpose.

as for hotmail, only outlook express interfaces with hotmail.

in short, you cant.

Well you can use the services such as Netzero to set up an account in Windows and use POP client to retrieve it. Netzero's primary intention is for you to use their free dial in and free e mail at the same time but after you set up, use it or not is your option but mail box will remain operational. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

Any free email service you can get your email off of in a fairly simple way -- as long as it offers pop3. softhome.net is one such, but they do spam you. You'll probably have to use your ISP's smtp server, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. As for how to get the email from the server to your computer, use fetchmail. There is even a nice GUI config utility for it..

Actually, my wife has a free Yahoo email account and they have the instructions on the Yahoo site on how to set it up so you can retrieve your mail on your local email proggie via POP3 account.
Now she uses Outlook Express if she's using windows or I set it up so she can use Evolution, too, when using Linux!
Works just fine!
And, again, they tell you how to do it on their site so it is in no way "cheating". Have fun! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Where is that info at? I would love to be able to get it sent to my house instead of having to goto their site, login, etc.

I looked on their site for general info about that and no go. When I logged in using my wifes info it lays it all out.
Let me see if I can grab the site, otherwise it may ask you for a username and password and stuff. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif
