just an fyi in case any one is interested.
Some reports suggest the Chinese military plans to elevate IW to a separate service on par with its army, navy and air force. This would include detachments of network warriors organized into “shock brigades,” says Timothy Thomas, an analyst at the U.S. Army’s Foreign Military Studies Office. http://www.msnbc.com/news/607031.asp

So what exactly s this story about? I didnt really understand. There are a few contradictions that make it hard to grasp.
1, The IW is making the EP-3E a potent weapon because of its abilities to intercept the transmited data. However, "Today in China, secure communications, computer networks and a nationwide fiber-optic network reflect China’s commitment to information warfare, both offensive and defensive. Fiber-optic cables, in particular, are enormously effective because they transmit data that cannot be remotely intercepted, the way radio or microwave communications can."
2, The IW will be different to hacking, whoever according to the article, the IW will consist of "compelling an adversary to take particular actions rather than to impose a military defeat". Does this mean propaganda or rather DoS attacks that result in the only action to be taken be one in favour of the attacker? The word "compelle" implies that it wont be forced but simply presented aas the only option, the differences between this and conventional hacking seem to be blurred. Only the Chinese are portrayed as using the technology as a 'conventional' military tool, is this some kind propaganda, I cant imagine the US military not using the IW to the greatest of possibilities, especially if it was to give them access to chinese computer systems.
This subject was also taken to be surprising by the article, although really it shouldn't be. Why would any country want to spend billions on nuclear weapons when insted they can hack the enemy and disable their weapons? Bingo, money's saved, money's wasted by the enemy and millions of innocent people aren't nuked.
Finally, all that windows stuff was quite amusing. The %age of chinese military systems running windows was amazing! Why do they do it? It's almost verging on unbelievable, somebody better warn them about typing

It just goes to show how powerful big buisness is, the Chinese have so much dedicated to fight the Yanks but still they use microsoft to do it. They trust big buisne$$ beurocrats over each other.
Lets hope for Chi-nux.
Peace out, ban the bomb and lets put in the genneva convention that you can only fight for your country if you voted for the government.
