I am running mandrake 7.2. I have uncommented ftp and telnet in the /etc/inetd.conf. I am still unable to get a connection to these ports. Any help would be appreciated.

The default install of Mandrake only installs a telnet client. You will also need to install the telnet-server rpm - you shoulsd have it on your installation CD's. Have a look here for more info: http://www.mandrakeuser.org/connect/ctrans.html

You might also check to see if the system is using xinetd(default in LM7.2) or inetd. Even if the system is using xinetd it installs a config file for inetd.

I have Mandy 7.2 on two PCs. Telnet worked on one but not the other. Not sure why telnet-server didn't install on one but since RPM'ing it in, it works. Thanks for the tip. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
