installing avifile

I'm trying to install avifile under Mandrake 8.0, and I'm getting the following error when running configure:

configure error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

What the heck is it talking about?

I *think* you need this file off the first cd:
XFree86-devel-4.0.3-7mdk.i586.rpm
(This is assuming you're using 4.0.3)

I installed avifile under mandrake 8 and got it working nicely, the errors it's configure gives you are very confusing but everything I needed was on the cd's.
