I am thinking of trying thr reiser file system, i had a look at the usual downloads, but they are all in patch form, can i get the file system as a whole, or do i have to download every patch.

I am using drake 7.2 with the 2.2.17 kernel, as i understand it if i patch the kernel i will have to start at 2.2.15 and download and install all the patches upto and including 2.2.17.

Cheers. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

I thought it was an option when installing Mandrake 7.2. I took this from the Duke of URL web site. He did a review of 7.2.

You can choose from a variety of partitions, including ReiserFS, my current favorite.

Could you do an update from the install disk? I really don't know. I'm wondering about that myself.

It is an option at install, I am using reiserfs for the "/" directory and ext2 for "/home", "/boot", and "/data". I ASSume you could install the packages from the install disk ?!? (Try rpmDrake)

However, I don't know if you bought the box or downloaded it from the net. I guess maybe that didn't include the reiserfs package on the download version ? But, I'm not really sure....

If you are using the Mandrake kernel you do not need to patch it because Mandrake has already done it. You only have to install the rpm's for reiserfs (if not yet done).

If you are using the original linus kernel you have to download patches for kernel-2.2.17 but not for 2.2.15 (I've forgotten the location of the website)
