I just started using Slackware 8.1 and I am still a newbie ok people. If you dont explain a little bit I wont understand and I wont reply to you because it wont make no sence to me. My questions is! How do i get X to work. I have tried the following; installing NVIDIA_kernel.tgz NVIDIA_GLX.tgz, unziped em, tar xf them both, cd to dir and make World as root then make install. I have tried xf86config, I have tried moving sertain dir but i cant remember them but it was something to do with xf86config in /etc/bin/ i think. Can someone help me get this bad boy going? I would really appreciate it.

Is make World and make install correct for the nvidia source? It's not ./configure, make & make install/

What happens when you start X using

startx

Ya everything is correct. I just dont understand it. When i try to startx i get a fatal IO error 104. I have no clue what so ever and I dont want to go back to red hat just to get X. So i think I am just going to stick it out.

Try using /usr/X11R6/bin/xfree86setup (as root) instead of xf86config.

Have you tried searching for the error message?

Try these Google search results for "fatal IO error 104" (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=fatal+IO+error+104&btnG=Google+Search) .
