Can Xmess be cleaned?

Xmess, the emulator, if it ran ideally would be a complete dream come true... The linux gaming problem would be completely solved and I wouldn't really need windows for much... But this thing won't tell me what the buttons are, how to configure them, the sound is crappy, and it's in a small window. Also, whenever I try running an atari XX00 rom (yes, I AM that much of a geek) I get something saying "XX00.rom not found". Are any of these problems solveable?

Oh yeah, if I get my joystick working, would any of you know how to get it working well in this program?

try loading modules joy-analog and joystick for your joystick


Dont know about xmess, and I cant apt-get it (!), but perhaps you need to

1) give full path to rom
2) not incllude ".rom"

Just a guess
