What is a name/brand of a good modem only, for an older IBM Thinkpad? A PCMCIA modem, not an external one, that will work with Linux.

I need the name of some....thnx.

I'm using a 3COM modem, and it works flawlessly in both Mandrake and Redhat, so no reason it wouldn't work with any linux distribution.

Thnx, but do you kno the exact model? 3Com have some winmodems and I don't want one of those.

Yes, no problem. On it, it's written MODEL XJ1560. And, a paragraph, at the bottom of the card, says "Select Megahertz xj1560 or it's equivalent when your communications software asks you to identify your modem.

Hope this is enough. :) unless you want me to scan both the front and back of the pccard. :)

I picked up a Viking 56k PC Card modem (http://www.vikingcomponents.com/products/56pc.asp) a while back. It was dirt cheep and works flawlessly out of the box.

Where did you buy it from? The searches I've tried all show that Viking PC Card around $80 on up!:rolleyes:

Most 3Com modems run around $40s.

I don't recall the exact company I got it from, but I did find it through Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com). It cost me under $30 about a year and a half ago.
