Without a ISP

I am wondering Is it possible to be connected to the internet have an ip all that stuff without going through an isp......Like how does an isp provide internet......Would it be possible to set your self up as an isp selling other people internet etc.?

You gotta pay someone. Whether that be to your ISP for a dialup, or an upstream provider like Cable & Wireless or Qwest for a T1.

he's asking, how do ISPs get their connections to the big wide world... and obviously, they don't go through dial-up or cable...

Yeah...they pay an upstream provider like C&W, Qwest, or Sprint, etc... for a T1 or DS3 usually.
