Yesterday, when I clicked on the K button, then multimedia/sound/xmms, xmms would run. Today I click on it, and nothing!!
Does anyone know what could be wrong? I never did anything to my system since yesterday.
If I go into the menu and check to see what command that menu entry uses, it is 'soundwrapper xmms'. Now, if I type that in a console, xmms runs fine, and if I go to RUN and type that in, xmms runs fine..!!
Why won't it run from the menu?

Thats really strange. You could edit the menu item and change it to /usr/bin/soundwrapper xmms
Maybe KDE has lost its path?

possibly, but every other thing in the menu works.
is there a way I can see any errors that may be lost to oblivion because I'm using X..?

unless your menus are customised, right click on K and you need to customise the menu
within this editor you can reset the menu to default which rebuilds it.
job done
i have other issues with the gnome menu but i cant be arsed with it at the moment

If you look in your home directory, you will find a hidden file called .xsession-errors. It should help, if you can make head or tail of its contents. ( If you are using a file manager to view it, select View - Show Hidden Files. )

I tried rebuilding the menu, nothing.. I'm gonna check out the xsession errors now..

what else you can do in addition to reading the xsession errors is to delete your .kde directory within your account
but only do this if your desktoip is not majorly customised and can be rebuilt by you
this will then recreate a kde desktop for your, and should fix your problem

or
you can edit the menu option for xmms and enter what you do in the terminal to get it working
is it only xmms which doesnt work or are there other apps which dont?

uhh, what is in the menu IS what works in the console.. That's why I don't understand..
It works in gnome and all the other desktops, but in KDE it does not work. I get xmms in the task list for about 2 seconds, then it disappears.

get the command which kde uses to exectute xmms and enter it in console
usually when it appears and dissappears its crashed
but it would be easier to dupe the xmms command in gnome onto kde
weird problem though

dude, when I copy the command out of the menu, and paste it into a console, it WORKS..!!
Anyhow, I found out the problem, in case anyone's wondering..
I just went to ~/.kde/share/applnk-mdk/ and there was a directory in there called Sound. In here there was a file that was referring to xmms, so I deleted the whole Sound directory. It works now, but don't ask me how it got screwed up.. Seems like a random thing.
