I am able to use Netscape with proxy server information, however I cannot seem to get IRC or ICQ to use the proxies. Even by choosing proxy servers on the IRC clients that have them, it does not seem to work.
The Internet server is connected to a cable modem, and it is running Windows with Wingate.
My Linux machine can read the settings, at least from Netscape, but how can I use IRC and ICQ with this configuration?

I personnaly would not use wingate. in my opinion its POS. I prefer winroute. www.winroute.com, (http://www.winroute.com,) this is the windows equiv to ip masqurading. it performs NAT and is rather easy to set up. None of your apps will need to be configured, just set your gateway to the ip address and you are good to go. In the case of icq for full functionality such as file transfers etc you will need to set a few options in winroute, but that is explained pretty well on their site.

If you have any questions, icq 5588776

Thank you for your reply, but since I am new to Linux and not a programmer, could you please let me know how to set my gateways in Linux?
I will see about the proxy server you mentioned.
Once again, thank you.
