Hey guys. I have a client who is wanting to setup 2 web servers running Red Hat 7.0. I have heard (just from talking to people) that RH7.0 is not very secure and has alot of problems, and that 6.2 would be a better choice. Is this right? If so, where could I find some reports or something that would back that up?
Thanks in advance!

It's more about compiler differences rather than security... they chose to put a beta compiler into 7.0, making it pretty much worthless to use... it's been patched, but not enough to justify using it...

Start here -> http://linuxtoday.com/search.php3 and try advanced search, check Redhat and type bug as the keyword.
If your client worries about security, just don't run Redhat.

Any RedHat ?.0 release will be buggy, comparatively. The ?.0 release is where they add in a whole lot of new software that isn't very well tested. The ?.1 release is more stable, but will still have some problems.
By the time RedHat puts out the ?.2 release, it should be in pretty good shape.
So, yeah, 6.2 would probably be the way to go. If you're looking to try out new software, then go for 7.0, but I wouldn't use it in a production environment.

Thanks for your help guys. With your opinions and the things I found at Linuxtoday.com I have convinced them to go with 6.2 (couldn't get them to go for Slack!).
Thanks again.

redhat 6.1 is your best bet
redhat 7 is very buggy and full of security holes, just like 6.2
just get 6.1, upgrade what you need, get the security fixes from redhat errata.... or convince them of a different distro. people that pick redhat just because aren't too knowledgable about what they're doing. if they have an awesome support contract with redhat or some other compelling reason, ok. if not, it's your job to do it right and redhat is probably not the way to go.

Haha exactly. Who doesn't know Redhat is the most buggiest Linux distribution? Yes, other Linux distributions are buggy too. Yes, *BSBs are buggy too, but it's alot easier to track bugs and do upgrade or patch.

I completely disagree RedHat 7.0 is very bullet proof there new feature up2date is freakin awsome! I have never had a more stable system until now and yes I use the binary rmps thats because I don't want to misconfigure my computer. I would seriously check 7.0 out!
