Hello people!
I ask out their, Does anyone here have SuSe?
If you do then please help me. People who have SuSe please answer the following questions :
1. Is it easy to install and configure?
2. Will it run good on a P200Mhz w/128mb RAm?
3. Is it better than Mandrake?
Please help a linux newbie. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

i Have Suse 7.0 and didnt have a problem with install or configure, i run a pIII 500 with 128m and it runs fine. And so far i like it better than Mandrake 7.0. The only problem i've had was that the inted.conf file wasn't started at boot up and made my monitor wacky, but easily fixed to start at boot.

Just about any distro can install and run fine on a 200, especially with that much ram.
Dr. SuSe wrote a nice little thing for the Distro Choice NHF - you may want to check that out.
And, imho, just about anything is better than Mandrake - except maybe caldera and corel linux.

my dad has suse 7.0 and really likes it. He was able to install it without asking for any help. I was impressed by the slick installation menus and the amount of hardware it found. (USB hp deskjet 1220c)
It is of the same difficulty to use as pretty much all distros. The yast and yast2 for configuration is really nice.
Plus their documentation on the sight is reasonable, not spectacular but it works.

I was using SuSE 6.3 and recently I updated it to 7.0. I had no problems with installing 6.3 or configuring it, and updating to 7.0 went without a hitch. SuSE is very easy to configure, thanks to its superb configuration tool YaST.
If SuSE runs quite well on my P233 with 64 MB RAM, it will most likely run very well on your system!
I haven't tried Mandrake but I've tried quite a few distros out there (most of them were Red Hat based like Mandrake) but the only ones to survive on my disk longer than half a year have been Slackware and SuSE.
Now if that wasn't clear enough: SuSE = good choice! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

My $.02 is inline with most other replies.
It is very easy to install.
It is very easy to update.
It is very easy to configure. Thanks to Yast.
Is it better than mandrake? Thats hard to say. If mandrake installs cleanly your are left with just about everything configured and ready to go. I find myself reinstalling mandrake due to botched install or even update. SuSE installs and configures the base system first and then you can choose the installation medium; cdrom,FTP, or NFS.
If you buy the boxed set you get very good documentation and some cool stickers.
They also contribute alot back to the community.(Reisersfs,x-servers,LVM)
Throw a decent PCI video card in that system and it will run great.

Ok, I've been hee-hawing over the decision to switch to SuSE for a while too. A question. Should I, for a single home computer, shell out the extra few bucks for the "Professional" version, or just get the base. Any extra thoughts are appreciated. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

i'm running SuSe 7.0 on a P200MMX with 48MB RAM and a 2.2 gig partition... it runs fine too. only slows down if gnomeicu, netscape, *****x, several monitors, several panelapps, and gnome itself is running... even then it's fine...
oh, and the install took me 45 minutes, and was painless... only xfree86 sucks... use SaX and you're fine... YaST (*which comes with suse) is great for installing packages and system config...
