I'm running KDE and I'm having a really hard time copying and pasting text between applications.

For instance, I just posted a message on the forum, and I had to copy and paste the output of an error message. First I tried to copy and paste directly from the terminal. The I tried to direct the output of the program to an ASCII file and copy and paste from the KDE text editor. It still didn't work. I had to open the text file with my browser to copy and paste it in here.

There must be a better way! :(

In X you can copy and paste any text between any application. Highlight the text you want to copy, then click your 'middle' mouse button at the point you want the text copied to. If you dont have a 3 button mouse you can turn 'emulate 3 buttons' on in your XF86Config file and press both left and right buttons at the same time to paste.

Yeah what demetrius said with one more step for the two button mouse.
Hold left mouse button to drag over selection.
Then click right button at point you want to select "up to." NOTE: This selection must be "downstream", by one character, in reading direction of what you want to copy.
And like demetrius said click both buttons to paste into the other application.
Also <ctrl>+<c> works in an xterm to copy but <ctrl>+<v> doesn't paste.

Again, please do not crosspost.

Have a nice day.

We are hoping that the new Linux standard that was completed just the other day can help developers to get a common way of the copy/paste -function, but for now, it's quite confusing, really.

Just hang tight, and use the middle button on your mouse until further.
