Hi there I was wondering if it is possible to set up a windows streaming media server on a Linux box? I will also be running a G2 real server.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

i dont think so. streaming media uses ASF, which as far as i know has no linux codecs.

have you taken note of Real Servers licensing though? i.e. the costs involved.

if you can afford to shell out the outragous amount of cash for real server, then dishin out some dough for a new pc to run windows 2000 + streaming media services isnt no big deal.

not so fast, the avi-xmms input plugin for XMMS claims to be able to play asf files (check it out here (fourth down) (http://xmms.org/plugins_input.html))

as for serving them up, Apache has always worked for me streming mp3, ogg, real, not sure if I ever tried asf, but I don't know why it wouldn't work..

Sorry to go off-topic here. I haven't done much with Windows Media. If you're looking to just do Audio, then Shoutcast and Icecast are options to look into. I haven't used either personally but I've heard good things.
